While up in Penn Yan, NY BJ and I set out to find a place for a romantic dinner for our vacation on Seneca Lake vs Keuka Lake area. We looked online and choose a place called the Montage Italian Grill at the Glen Motor Inn. But of course we didn’t know it was at the the Glen Motor Inn at the that time.
So we headed on out and while on the way we drove by this great looking winery called Glenora Wine Cellars and their restaurant called Veraisons and we were like wow! We made a mental note that we should try that place in the future or if this place we were heading for wasn’t good.
We drove right by the Montage Italian Grill because it didn’t look like an Italian restaurant but more like an old Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge, hence the part we missed about it being at the Glen Motor Inn. But since we made a reservation we figured we would go into the place and at least give it a chance. Well the view was great but the inside matched the outside and we were out of there after looking at the menu and staring at the 70’s carpet/interior. So you know where were were heading now – back to Glenora Wine Cellars!
We were very impressed just by coming in the door of the restaurant and we were hoping to get a table on the outside deck but unfortunately they had a private function going on so we sat inside two rows back from the windows where we could at least see Seneca Lake.
This place was fantastic from the service, wine, appetizers and entree’s! We ordered off their current Summer Dinner Menu.
- Veraisons Green Salad
- New York Rohan Duck Breast
- Paired with the suggested wine Syrah
- Grilled Flatbread Caesar Salad
- Game Hen Two Way
- Riesling (not the suggested pairing)
After dinner we were pleasantly surprised that the winery was open until 8pm so we headed up the hill as it was 7:30pm. Of course we were the only ones there so the wine attendant was wrapping up and had a great personality. We only had about 20 minutes but managed to have a great time. If we had more time I might be able to give a better review of the winery but it did have store and we bought the following wines:
